Amalilio jailed to prevent deportation, says PKR

The Malaysian authorities “conveniently” charged and jailed fugitive Manuel Amalilio, who is wanted in the Philippines, in order to prevent his deportation there, the PKR said.
This allegation and a number of questions were raised during the visit to the Philippines by two federal lawmakers to check out Amalilio's activities there.

"The manner in which Amalilio was charged is dubious, as he was charged and sentenced by a magistrate in a Sabah hospital," said Tian, also Batu MP.

Sivarasa, who is a lawyer, also questioned the manner in which the magistrate, prosecutors and Amalilio's lawyers were present and had, on Feb 5, the facts of their case conveniently prepared as well.

"He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years in jail," Sivarasa said.

The dubious nature of the charge against Amalilio, he added, led the Philippine authorities to demand Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's intervention because there appeared to be discrepancies in the whole matter.

There were also allegations, Tian Chua said, that the money collected by Amalilio in a pyramid scheme he was accused of operating in the Philippines could have been for the coming elections in Sabah.

"There is a high level of conspiracy in the whole matter involving Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman, who is Amalilio's uncle, and the Malaysian authorities in the matter.

"The bigger crime was carried out in Philippines and Amalilio should therefore not be held here in Malaysia," added Tian Chua.
