Bawani silent on next move

A police report and a defamation suit are among the options that Bawani may take against Suara Wanita 1Malaysia chief, Sharifah Zohra Jabeen Syed Shah Miskin.
PETALING JAYA: Second year law student KS Bawani is silent on her next move against Suara Wanita 1Malaysia (SW1M) chief, Sharifah Zohra Jabeen Syed Shah Miskin’s allegation that Bawani had made a rude gesture before leaving the forum
“I will respond to the matter soon. I may consider lodging a police report against her on charges of defamation I will have to discuss the matter with lawyers,” Bawani told FMT
Bawani was responding to allegations by Sharifah that she had shown Sharifah the middle finger before leaving the hall.
“Bawani showed me the middle finger and walked out of the hall alone. The students applauded me. What does this say?” she told FMT in an exclusive interview on Thursday  night.
Sharifah said SW1M videotaped the entire session of the Dec 8 forum at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and was planning to release the recording soon.
Bawani and Sharifah were in the news  after a portion of the forum recording entitled “Forum Suara Mahasiswa Part 4″ was put on Youtube by some bloggers went viral on social networking site, Facebook in January.
The video shows the SW1M chief speaking in support of Barisan Nasional’s tertiary education policy however even the Higher Education Deputy Minister Saifuddin Abdullah described her demeanour as “condescending and patronising.”
Umno Youth chief Khairy was quick in distancing his party from Sharifah who is also an ordinary Umno member.
The video also resulted in people referring to Sharifah as Kak Listen.
Many student groups attempted to host a debate forum including Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia to provide a platform for both ladies to debate on free education but Sharifah skipped the forum. She said she was not a minister to debate on a government policy.
Subsequently, Sharifah issued a statement saying she forgave Bawani and stressed that she was neither contemptuous of university students nor against their exercise of free speech. She also apologised to UUM.
In response to this Bawani said that she is not seeking an apology from Sharifah and also wanted a closure to the whole episode.
