Hulu Selangor police deny Anak's claims of inaction

Hulu Selangor district police chief Supt Norel Azmi Yahya Affendi denied that his men did not stop the chaotic scene that took place at Felda Sungai Tengi on the evening of Feb 4, when the PAS-led non-governmental organisation held a talk there.

Norel Azmi said he had instructed 30 of his men, including two assistant superintendents and four inspectors, to guard the ceramah.

"We were there when the scene was quite "hot" and we diffused the situation," he claimed when contacted, adding that the situation would have been worse if there was no police presence.

He said this when asked about Anak president Mazlan Aliman's (above, left) claim that police failed in their duty to stop "ruffians" he believes are from Umno and Perkasa from putting up obstacles and causing disturbances at the Anak event.

Norel Azmi also denied that police gave the opposing group permission to create chaos.

He said there was a meeting among Felda, the police and the organisers, at which Mazlan was told not to walk up the stage to give a talk.

However, Norel added, Mazlan failed to abide by this requirement, resulting in the chaotic atmosphere.
