I Want To Do Things Differently This Year - Najib
GEORGE TOWN - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said his involvement in making the Chinese New Year video clip is to make a difference in this year's celebration.
He said it was also a gesture of appreciation and respect for the Chinese culture so that the people respect the cultures of other races in this country.
"The video clip you saw is very different and some may ask why I did the video. I did the video because I wanted to do things defferently this year.
"It gives a message to the Chinese community that I respect the Chinese culture. As much as you should respect the Malay culture, you should respect the Indian culture and also the Chinese culture," he said in a brief speech at Media Chinese New Year Night at G Hotel here Sunday night.
In the video clip lasting about one minute, Najib made a special appearance by beating the Chinese traditional drum.
The Prime Minister stressed that he wanted to be with the people of Penang because the state is important and and likened it to a precious gem.
"I promise to people of Penang. We Want to tackle the housing and traffic problem in Penang. Believe me, the promises will be fulfilled."
At the event, Najib spent time chatting with about 300 media practitioners and Penang Barisan Nasional (BN) coordinators and party division chiefs.
His arrival was met by bureau chiefs of 16 media agencies including the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), News Straits Times Press, Utusan Malaysia, The Star, Guang Ming Daily, Sin Chew Jit Poh and Chine Press.
Najib who was accompanied by Penang BN chairman Teng Chang Yeow started the dinner by mixing the yee sang together with media representatives.
Also present were Penang Umno liaison chief Datuk Zainal Abidin Osman, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop and other BN leaders.
