IOI Mall flooded, group blames Selangor gov't

The IOI Mall in Puchong and the nearby roads were flooded this evening, and a pro-BN group is putting the blame on Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim’s administration.

Hamidzun said the federal government had given Selangor an RM350 million grant a year via the Malaysian Road Records Information System (Marris), which should have been used  to maintain roads and drainage systems, but the grant was squandered on Selangor’s Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor (MES) programme instead.

"Water is the people’s right as the menteri besar declares every day, but floodwaters, too? Menteri besar, please give a definitive answer,” he said in a statement today.

Purported photographs of the flood being circulated via social media networks show flood waters at knee-high level in some areas.

When contacted, Puchong Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Haswan Wasir confirmed that the area around IOI Mall was flooded, as well as LDP at the Bandar Puteri interchange.

Haswan told Malaysiakini that the flood started about 5.30pm and receded about an hour later. The water at the interchange went as high as 1.5 metres and damaged a bus, two lorries, and two cars.

However, he said, he could not ascertain the depth of the water and the damage at the IOI Mall area as he had yet to receive information on the matter.
