LEAVE MCA NOW: Don't wait till you get kicked out by Soi Lek's politics of retribution - Jui Meng

LEAVE MCA NOW: Don't wait till you get kicked out by Soi Lek's politics of retribution - Jui Meng
PKR vice president Chua Jui Meng called on his former colleagues in the MCA to "open their eyes" to the "politics of retribution" displayed by MCA president Chua Soi Lek and leave the BN coalition before it was too late.
"It is very shabby behavior of Soi Lek to dump Ong Tee Keat in such a manner. If Soi Lek can do this to a former MCA president, just imagine what he can do to other grassroots and senior leaders whom he doesn't like and wants to replace with his own men," Jui Meng told Malaysia Chronicle.
"I would urge MCA members to open their eyes now. Don't delay and get stranded like Tee Keat. Leave MCA and join the Opposition to fight for a better Malaysia. There is nothing MCA or BN can do for them or for Malaysia except to drag the country down even more. Accept that an era has ended and start a new chapter with a sincere heart for a better future for our children, families and the country."
Jui Meng was referring to the controversial announcement made on Wednesday by Soi Lek, who dropped arch enemy Tee Keat, the Pandan MP, from MCA's list of election candidates submitted to Prime Minister Najib Razak.
There is no love lost between the 2 men and Soi Lek had wrested the presidency in 2010 after mounting a no-confidence motion, EGM and special vote to oust Tee Keat.
In a press conference held a day ago to give his side of the story, Tee Keat could only put up a lame rebuttal, insisting that it was not over yet and Najib would have the final say. "Isn't it up to Najib as BN chairman to announce the final list of candidates?" Tee Keat had told reporters.
Sad to say, Najib has not indicated any partiality for Tee Keat, while Umno division members in Pandan have made no secret of the fact that they believe an Umno candidate would stand a better chance of winning the seat.
Don't wait until you are kicked out
Indeed, the doors are starting to come down on Tee Keat. He is in a quandary and his political career, perhaps, at a final crossroad.
Political watchers say there are several steps the former MCA chief can take, including appealing to Najib to step in and overturn Soi Lek's decision. However, even if Najib agreed, such a move would have major implications for the MCA, which has long been accused of being tied to the apron-strings of the PM's Umno party.
If Tee Keat were to insist on contesting as an Independent, his chances of success would be reduced as he would have to face the full might of BN's election machinery as well as the Pakatan Rakyat's.
The door to Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim's PKR party has already begun to close as it has been forced to make alternative plans due to Tee Keat's delay in making up his mind about whether to leave the BN or not.
"Tee Keat is in a tight spot of his own making. Whatever his reasons, he is now in the weaker position. How can he bargain with Najib, what leverage can he use? It is the same with the Opposition, don't join only when you are about to be kicked out. Join because you are sincere in fighting for change, for reforms," said Jui Meng.
Ka Ting to make a return, Ka Chuan to be dropped
The MCA's performance has been on the decline and it may even face annihilation in the coming 13th general election. In the 2008 polls, the party only managed to win 15 seats in Parliament and 32 seats in the state assemblies versus 31 in Parliament and 74 at the states in the 2004 polls.
To stop the slide, Soi Lek and his men have gone on an aggressive Opposition-bashing strategy, lashing out at PAS for sidelining non-Muslims and the DAP for insincere and devious politics.
So far, the plan has not worked. The Chinese community's rejection of the MCA has worsened and this is in no small part due to Soi Lek's own personality and brand of politics, where to preserve his hold on the party, he has ruthlessly withdrawn many positions held by members perceived to be friendly to his rivals.
After Tee Keat, Tanjung Malim MP Ong Ka Chuan is expected to be the next to be put on the chopping board. Ka Chuan is  a former Minister of Housing and Local Government and had also served as the MCA's secretary-general. His younger brother is Ka Ting, the MCA president who preceded Tee Keat.
While Najib is not expected to bail out either Tee Keat or Ka Chuan, he is also wary of Soi Lek. Unless, the scandal-tainted former Health Minister is able to deliver seats to the BN's tally, he can expect an Umno-led move to unseat him from MCA, a political party with formidable coffers and a controlling stake in The Star newspaper.
There is already talk in the MCA grapevine that Najib has lined up Ka Ting to "pick up the pieces" after Soi Lek is removed.
"I don't think there is much Najib can do to stop Ka Chuan and tee Keat from being dropped but we have intelligence that he wants Ka Ting to stand in Kulai. This is a warning to Soi Lek but do you think Soi Lek will listen? And even if Ka Ting comes back to power, will the MCA be able to settle down and be peaceful? Will the Chinese community be reassured with Ka Ting as the MCA president once again? Obviously not," said jui Meng.
"The fact is the Chinese will only be happy when they believe they are being served by good leaders, responsible, honest and able to speak up for their rights and the rights of all the other races in the country. We are moving to a Malaysian mindset now. Parties that are race-dominated like the MCA, Umno, MIC will be phased out. So if you want to serve the community and the country, then don't dilly-dally until you are kicked out. Leave the MCA now."
