Lively Chinese New Year celebrations

Prime Minister Najib joined more than 10,000 people at the CNY open house organised by the MCA in Cheras.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Chinese community in the country today celebrated the Chinese New Year which marks the start of the Year of the Snake in the Chinese zodiac in a lively and harmonious atmosphere.
It was a very auspicious start as the weather was generally good and festivities were further livened up by the presence national and community leaders who were joined by Malaysians from all walks fo life at the numerous open houses held to celebrate the major occasion.
In the capital, for example, Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak, Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and two former prime ministers, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, joined more than 10,000 people at the CNY open house organised by the MCA which was held at the football field at the Seri Johor flats in Cheras here.
The main streets in the capital were also free of the usual dense traffic following the exodus of much of the city folk who are taking advantaging of the festive season to go back to their hometowns.
This made moving around the city to celebrate the CNY a rather smooth affair.
