‘Najib must explain Sulu invasion’

Instead of talking about elections and his transformation policies, the security breach should be top priority, says Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo.
PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak was today urged to call for a special sitting of Parliament to explain to the public the current situation in Lahad Datu.
Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo said today Najib should give the matter top priority and explain why Malaysia’s security forces have yet to act against the armed invaders.
“We are under attack… and our Prime Minister talks about elections and his transformation policies,” said Gobind. “How can Parliament be dissolved in the midst of an attack?”
Gobind was referring to Najib’s statement yesterday that he will not hold elections until his transformation policies have succeeded.
“It is strange and absurd to find a Prime Minister speaking about the need to delay polls because of focus on economic transformation plans whilst he is totally silent on Sabah.
“Reports from neighbouring nations suggest that the problem is serious and may not be resolved soon. There is still the threat of further forced occupation and even violence.
“The Prime Minister should understand that a security breach should take priority over his transformation plans,” said Gobind. “He must tell us what is happening.”
On Feb 12, boats ferrying over 100 armed men wearing military fatigues landed in Kampung Tanduo on Lahad Datu’s shores, seeking to lay claim to Eastern Sabah.
Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram’s brother Agbimuddin Kiram, who is leading the armed group, is bent on settling in the state.
Police roadblocks and the cordon around the village is into its third week without any sign of resolution in sight.
