KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 20 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his predecessor, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, will be called to testify in Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik’s defence at his cheating trial over the purchase of land for the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) project.
Former transport minister Dr Ling is charged with cheating the Cabinet into approving the land purchase that allegedly resulted in wrongful losses to the government.
Dr Ling’s lawyer, Wong Kian Kheong, told the court today that Najib and Abdullah are part of a list of at least six more defence witnesses to be called.
Other witnesses to be called include Tan Sri Fong Chan Onn, Cabinet minister Datuk Seri Rais Yatim, deputy CEO of Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd (KDSB) and expert witness Sajjad Akhtar from an accounting firm.
Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the country’s longest-serving prime minister, today finished his testimony as the fourth defence witness.
The trial before judge Datuk Ahmadi Asnawi resumes on March 12 with the defence calling Tan Sri Fong Chan Onn as the next witness.
