Police record Patrick Teoh's statement over FB rant

Police have recorded the statement of radio personality cum actor Patrick Teoh over the latter’s alleged anti-Islam posting made on social networking site, Facebook.

A police source confirmed today that Teoh had given his statement at the Ampang Jaya police headquarters at around 11am on Feb 6 and was accompanied by his lawyer during the hour-long session with the police.

azlanMalaysiakini is told that Teoh is being investigated under Section 298A of the Penal Code, which states that it is an offence, on the grounds of religion, to cause disharmony, disunity, or feelings of enmity, hatred or illwill, or prejudicing the maintenance of harmony or unity.

If convicted, he faces a possible jail term of two to five years.

The radio personality came under fire from netizens following a profanity-laced posting he had made on his Facebookpage on Jan 15 criticising Kedah PAS-led government’s guidelines for performers and officials involved in a 1Malaysia Chinese New Year celebration planned for Alor Setar on Feb 15.

The Kedah executive council guidelines prescribed proper attire and encouraged singers to perform motivational songs.

The former radio deejay has since apologised for his statement and removed the offending posting from his page.
However, several quarters, including Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar has called for stern measures to be taken against Teoh.
