'Which party registered my daughter?' asks Ramasamy

Penang Deputy Chief Minister P Ramasamy is not amused at the Election Commission's (EC) statement that "a political party" had registered his daughter as a voter in Semenyih.
dap congress 161212 ramasamyRamasamy (left) said he was "perturbed" at the comment issued by EC chief Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof in Kuching recently.
"His statement was highly irresponsible and pathetic as he failed to provide the name of the political party which allegedly did the deed.
"I want him to tell me which political party registered my daughter. He should not hide the information," Ramasamy said when contacted.
Ramasamy said his daughter's case has opened a Pandora box where if probed thoroughly, the EC would find many similar "fraudulent cases".
Since he lodged a police report over the matter last week, Ramasamy said he would be giving the authorities another two weeks to complete their investigation.
"I am taking this issue very seriously and need be, I will take it up to the highest court of the land," the DAP deputy secretary warned.
abdul aziz spr ec chairman 300509Abdul Aziz (rightresponded to Ramasamy's complaint that his daughter was registered as a voter in Semenyih without her consent and knowledge.
He was quoted as saying in Malay dailyBerita Harian, that the daughter was registered as a voter in the Semenyih state seat under the Hulu Langat parliamentary constituency using an address in Semenyih on Feb 21, 2011.
He added that the registration was done through the EC's application form, ‘Borang A' with her identity card bearing an address in Selangor, and that the form was submitted by a political party.
‘Who did it on her behalf?'
Meanwhile, Ramasamy denied that the DAP had carried out the registration, saying that at the material time, his daughter, Sri Vaitheki, was in the United Kingdom studying for her PhD.
He added that proper documentation - like filling up the proper forms, and providing a photocopy of the identity card (IC) and their signature - was needed to register as a voter.
"If my daughter did not do it, who did it on her behalf? Someone must be carrying her IC to enable her to register as a voter," Ramasamy alleged.
He insisted that Abdul Aziz come clean on the alleged political party, asking "If they cannot be transparent about this, how are they going to be clean and fair during the general election?"
