Altantuya Statutory Declaration 2: Bar Council & its president's credibility at stake - Gobind

Altantuya Statutory Declaration 2: Bar Council & its president's credibility at stake - Gobind
I call upon Bar Council president Lim Chee Wee to state what has become of the investigations into the second SD of P Balasubramaniam.

Lim had on 4th January this year said that the Bar would make the necessary inquiries to ascertain the identities of the lawyers concerned and to consider whether they have committed any professional misconduct.

All appears to have gone silent after that, thereby leaving many to ask if the Bar has somewhat conveniently forgotten about the probe. And there is now a motion filed by lawyers for a committee to be set up to probe the circumstances surrounding Bala's second SD.

Lim should also tell us if the Bar will seek the assistance of P. Balasubramaniam himself since he has now returned, in its probe. There may have been "problems" earlier about a lack of evidence but that seems to be a non issue now.

Lim had in his statement accepted that this was "undoubtedly a serious matter". He also said that the Council would follow due process "without fear or favour, and in accordance with due process, "regardless of the personalities or circumstances".

Many months have gone by. It would not be out of place to say that the credibility of the Bar Council and its president are at stake. It would be to my mind, in the best interests of the Bar, for him to now give us an update on the matter.
