Demos against Lim and Penang state government

Two NGOs marched to the Komtar to hand over two memorandums to the Chief Minister's Office.
GEORGE TOWN: Two separate demonstrations against the Pakatan Rakyat state government and Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng were held by different non-governmental organisations at Komtar this afternoon .
The first was held by Malaysian Rights, a coalition of three NGOs, at 1.30pm until 2.15pm while the next one was held immediately after by Warisan Anak Merdeka, comprising Muslim NGOs, until 3pm.
The demonstrations were preceded by a 500-metre street march by demonstrators from Jalan Macalister to Komtar.
Malaysian Rights, which had a larger crowd of multi-racial demonstrators wearing blue T-shirts, handed over a 10-point memorandum for Lim’s administration to address.
Malaysian Rights is made of Malaysian Youth Rights Movement (MYRM), One Malaysia (1Malaysia) Brothers and Penang Youth Community Organisation.
The memorandum was handed over by Khoo Beng Eam, the president of 1Malaysia Brothers, to Shum Jian Wei, the assistant information officer of the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).
The memorandum called on the state government to cancel the multi-billion tunnel project, to build low-cost housing for needy Penangites and fulfil DAP’s promises made during the last general election campaign.
The memorandum questioned Lim on the imminent toll charge for the tunnel when his party, the DAP, has always promised to abolish tolls.
The NGOs demanded to know why Lim insisted on requiring his permission to use the word “Penang.”
The memorandum also called on Lim to state his and his party official stand on Lynas, pointing out that Pakatan de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim and Indera Makhota MP Azan Ismail have supported the project.
The memorandum demanded to know why Pakatan’s manifesto, Orange Book (Buku Jingga), and state government budgets did not have allocations to build Chinese schools and address any Indian issues.
Spokesman of the Malaysian Rights, Shen Yee Aun, who heads the MYRM, said the people also want to know why free WiFi service for Penang had not been easily accessible to the public although millions were spent to install it.
Malaysian Rights has given Lim a week to address the issues.
If he fails, the coalition would consider other actions.
Minutes after the coalition demonstration dispersed peacefully, came the Warisan Anak Merdeka demonstrators.
Wearing traditional Malay dress and headbands, the demonstrators condemn Lim for urging the government to allow use of the word “Allah” in the Christian Bible.
Spokesman for the group, Abdul Ghani Haroon, handed over a “confession letter” purportedly written by Lim to all Malaysians to the Chief Minister Office assistant information officer, Watawa Nataf.
In the letter, prepared by the coalition, Lim had admitted his statement made in his blog on Dec 24, last year contravened Articles 3 and 11(4) of the Federal Constitution, and National Charter, the Rukunegara.
At first, Watawa declined to acknowledged receipt of the confession letter but he was then forced to pen down his signature on it by the hostile group.
Abdul Ghani told reporters later that the coalition had given Lim two weeks from today to yield to the demand.
