GUESS THE RESPONSE: Silly Soi Lek asks 'Is Najib the leader for all Malaysia?'

GUESS THE RESPONSE: Silly Soi Lek asks 'Is Najib the leader for all Malaysia?'
It was slightly cold in Negeri Sembilan last weekend because of the rain. The political climate, however, was very hot.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was greeted by about 30,000 people upon arrival at a 3,000-table dinner held by the Negri Sembilan Federation of Chinese Association in Seremban. It was said to have created a new Malaysian record.
Meanwhile, another dinner was held by the DAP in nearby Lukut. More than 2,000 people had turn up at the 280-table dinner. Of course, it was quite bustling, too.
If someone says that the dinner attended by the Prime Minister had attracted many people because there were many goodies, including free meals and lucky draws, it would be an insult to local Chinese. They would not attend a political activity that they do not like or hate just for the free meals and lucky draws.
They attended the dinner to at least show that they still have room to choose, listen and observe. They were giving them a chance.
It reflected the general mentality of the Chinese. Please do not think that the Chinese are stubborn. In fact, most Chinese are still observing and secretly calculating.
However, did the turnout of 30,000 people mean the BN has grabbed Chinese votes and many people are supporting the BN?
It might not so.
It was reported that when MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek asked the attendees "Is Najib the leader for all Malaysia?" for three times, the reaction was indifferent.
Chua was indeed asking for a snub. Such a question was a Taiwanese-style political show which could lead to a negative effect if blindly imitated. The MCA still needs to improve its skills in interacting with the crowd.
It reminded me of a wise man's words, "It is best not to ask the question that you do not know the answer."
You should not think that they support you just because they attended the dinner. It is called a wishful thinking.
Such kind of wrong interpretation has been repeated at the event attended by South Korean 'Gangnam Style' star Psy and a Chinese New celebration event in Malacca.
Najib has built an amiable image and made a number of changes in line with the wishes of the Chinese community. However, it does not mean that he has won their votes.
I believe that Najib is quite clear about it and understand well the mentality of the Chinese.
He had said it at the dinner that what the Chinese want is fair treatment.
Precisely, "fair treatment" is all the Chinese want.
Since the Chinese community has long been receiving unfair treatments, the Chinese make their considerations based on this point.
The Chinese want the abolition of quota system in all areas as any affirmative actions must be done based on fairness. It is necessary to help the vulnerable groups, but it should not be decided by skin colour.
The Chinese community wants a fair treatment for Chinese education, including funding, building more schools and teacher allocations, instead of receiving gifts from Santa Clause who carries a political agenda behind the move.
The Chinese community wants a fairer religion policy. In addition to Islam, other religions should be granted with freedom and respect.
Of course, the demand of fair treatment is not directed only to the BN. Pakatan Rakyat, too, must show the same sincerity and commitment.
If the demand of fair treatment is met, no need to ask, he will naturally be the Prime Minister for all Malaysians.
