‘I am not sixth PM’, says Rosmah

Rosmah denies influencing her husband and blames the rumour on jealous and ambitious leaders.
PETALING JAYA: Rosmah Mansor has denied playing the role of the sixth prime minister as alleged by certain quarters.
In her biography launched yesterday by former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Rosmah dismissed rumours of influencing her husband Najib Tun Razak and deciding current politics.
“When this rumour first surfaced, I was honest with Najib. I told him I did not want to be the PM of Malaysia,” she said jokingly in her book.
“I do not want to take over his place or any other PM’s place,” she added.
Rosmah blamed the “false notion” on “jealousy” and “ambition to be the top leader of the country”.
“Of course they [those who circulate rumours] have their own political agenda,” she said.
“Just because I am Najib’s number one supporter, I have become a target for them. Just because I am always with Najib, they think I have the power to implement policies like the PM,” she added.
Rosmah then urged those who believe in such rumours to “carefully study the history and constitution of this country”.
“How can I be prime minister when I am not even a lawmaker,” she pointed out. “I am only an ordinary Umno member. I do not have any power.”
Since Najib came into power in April 2009, the notion of Rosmah’s influence on her husband has constantly been questioned by the public and leaders on both sides of the political divide.
Rosmah’s 180-page biography entitled “Biographi Rosmah Mansor” was authored by Siti Rohayah Attan and Noraini Abdul Razak.
The biography is now available in bookstores and is priced at RM150 a copy.
