Lahad Datu: ‘Hold special sitting in Parliament’

Pakatan Rakyat leaders also urged the prime minister, home minister and the defence minister to convene a roundtable meeting with opposition leaders to deliberate on the matter.
PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Rakyat leaders today urged Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak to call for a special parliamentary sitting to discuss about the foreign intrusion in Lahad Datu, Sabah.
Speaking at a press conference at the PKR headquarters here, PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim said Pakatan leaders are concerned about the loss of lives and are willing to assist the government in resolving the matter.
“Let us have a roundtable discussion with Najib, Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein and Defence Minister Zahid Hamidi. We are ready to put aside our political differences as it involves the lives of our security forces and citizens,” he said.
Also present were DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang and PAS secretary-general Mustafar Ali.
For the past three weeks, hundreds of armed men from the Philippines and the Malaysian security forces are locked in a standoff in Lahad Datu, as the former refused to leave the state, citing historical claims.
Recently, a shoot-out ensued between both sides, with eight Malaysian security personnel and 18 armed foreigners killed.
