Negri Sembilan MB: No major policies will be decided

The people of Negri Sembilan today woke up to a caretaker state government in power, and life and business go on as usual.

NONE"There's no problem. The only difference is that as a caretaker government we cannot make decisions on policy which can have implications on the people and the next government," Menteri Besar Mohamad Hasan (right) said in Rembau.

The Negri Sembilan state legislative assembly dissolved automatically at midnight last night, marking a historic first for the state and probably for the country.

The automatic dissolution was in accordance with the state constitution.

The 36-member assembly, which was sworn in on March 27, 2008 and had its first sitting on April 25, 2008, had served the full five-year term, making it the first state legislative assembly in the country to automatically dissolve.

The menteri besar and the state executive councillors would see to the day-to-day running of the government.

Mohamad said: "We are still a government which takes care of the welfare of  the people. Without a government, there will be anarchy," he told reporters after handing over land titles to 55 people of Kampung Pasir Siliau and Kampung Pasir Tengah, Rantau.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission (EC) today received official notification of the automatic dissolution of the Negri Sembilan state legislative assembly at midnight.

Negri Sembilan state election director Afizam Abdullah Sani handed the notification to EC chairperson Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof at the EC headquarters in Putrajaya.

Abdul Aziz said the law empowered the EC to set the dates for nomination and polling within 60 days of being notified of the dissolution.

"This (setting of the dates) will be decided at a special meeting to be called soon. It is the desire of the EC to hold the (parliamentary and state) elections simultaneously," he said.
