Police return Umno Youth's fatal hit and run truck

Police today returned its owners the Toyota Hilux truck registered under the name of Lumut Umno Youth, allegedly involved in a hit and run incident which killed a senior citizen in Manjong Perak.

"The vehicle had been returned yesterday," Manjung district police headquarters traffic investigating officer Muhammad Ikhwan Abdul Hamid told Malaysiakini.

NONEHe added that investigations is still ongoing under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

"We have called in and taken down statements from witnesses namely the deceased's husband and the vehicle's driver. We had already taken down several statements on the day of the incident.

"We have (before this) sent the vehicle to the technical department and vehicular inspection unit Puspakom for further investigation."

But at the moment, Muhammad Ikhwan said that police are still waiting for Puspakom's a full technical report.

On Monday, China Press had reported that a 73-year old senior citizen on her way back home from a rubber estate was killed aftershe was hit by a truck which then fled the scene.
Though its driver and an occupant had stopped to remove party logo form the truck, but did not assist the victim.

NONELumut Umno Youth chief Mohd Shahril Yahaya admitted that one of his members was involved in the incident but denied that the person tried to flee the scene.

He claimed that the person involved only drove away to a location a hundred meters away, as he was scared of several "tattooed men" at the scene.
