Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Ismail Omar said the security forces had the situation under control and would ensure the safety of voters.
“We are ready despite what has happened. In fact, the situation is under control,” he told reporters here. Earlier, Ismail was given a briefing on the situation in Semporna at the Semporna district police headquarters.
He also visited Sitti Bandorah Mahalil, widow of Sergeant Abd Azis Sarikon, 48, who was killed in an ambush in Kampung Simunul, on March 2.
Ismail said the situation in Lahad Datu and Semporna had changed a lot for the better following the security forces’ offensive against the Sulu terrorists.
So far, 62 terrorists had been killed. — Bernama
