Remain calm, ignore rumours, Musa urges public


KOTA KINABALU, March 1 — Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman today advised the people to remain calm and to ignore rumours and invalid information circulating in the social media about the firefight between the security forces and the armed intruders in Kampung Tandou, Lahad Datu. 
Musa (picture), who is also Sabah Security Committee chairman, said what was important now was to avoid anything that could worsen the situation. 
“The authorities will provide detailed information about the incident from time to time,” he said in a statement here today. 
On behalf of the state government and the people of Sabah, Musa also extended his condolences to the family of the commandoes who were killed in the firefight today. 
“Indeed, we are sad and we feel sympathy, but at the same time we also appreciate the deeds and sacrifices made by our security forces in defending the sovereignty of our country,” he said. 
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today confirmed that the group of armed intruders in Lahad Datu, in the Malaysian state of Sabah had fired shots first at Malaysian security forces after they had advanced 1.5 kilometres from where they had camped earlier. 
So far, two Malaysian police commandoes were killed, while three soldier were injured. 
Najib also confirmed that 10 to 12 intruders were also killed in the incident. — Bernama
