Samy Vellu wants to contest in Sg Siput

Breaking his silence, the former MIC president confirms speculation that he wants to contest in the seat that he lost in 2008.
PETALING JAYA: After months of speculation, MIC’s former president S Samy Vellu has finally broken his silence on his desire to contest in Sungai Siput, his former stronghold of three decades.
According to Makkal Osai, the veteran politician said he was prepared to give it a shot if Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak is agreeable.
Samy Vellu, who was defeated in the parliament seat in 2008, is now the ambassador to the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).
Talk of Samy Vellu contesting in Sungai Siput started to circulate after he was appointed as BN coordinator in the parliament constituency by Najib last year.
It is also learnt that Najib has already identified MIC vice- president SK Devamany as the BN candidate for the seat.
Devamany, the deputy minister in Prime Minister Department, is the incumbent Cameron Highlands parliamentarian.
However, he is forced to move to Sungai Siput after MIC president G Palanivel’s insistence on wanting to contest in Cameron Highlands, which is considered a safe seat.
In 2008, the Sungai Siput seat fell to Parti Sosialis Malaysia’s Dr Michael Jeyakumar.
In another report, Makkal Osai claimed that DAP’s Chinese leaders are attempting to sideline the Indians in the upcoming election.
The report claimed that Chinese candidates might be fielded in constituencies held by Indian leaders.
Among others, it is speculated that Charles Santiago, the incumbent MP for Klang, might be dropped in the next polls.
Currently, there are seven Indian parliamentarians representing DAP – P Ramasamy(Batu Kawan), Karpal Singh (Gelugor), M Kulasegaran (Ipoh Barat), M Manogaran (Teluk Intan), Charles Santiago (Klang), Gobind Singh Deo (Puchong) and John Fernandez (Seremban).
