Penang BN chief Teng Chang Yeow was unhappy that he had attended a rally in Penang which involved Malay rights pressure group Perkasa.
A visibly irate Teng told reporters that he would not have attended the rally had he known of Perkasa's involvement.
"If they want to claim that they organised this, what can I do? I'm already here," Teng said when asked why he was attending the event.
"If they want to sneak in, what can I do? I would not be here if I knew Perkasa was part of it," said Teng, who is also the Penang Gerakan chief.
Gerakan, like another BN component MCA, has often had a thorny relationship with Perkasa, which in turn is a fervent supporter of Umno.

Crowd roasts Guan Eng
Teng was among the BN leaders spotted at the Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu Pulau Pinang at Padang Kota Lama, organised by 120 NGOs, including Perkasa.
As of 3pm, some 3,000 BN supporters were at the scene. Many of them boarded about 60 chartered busses to attend the event.
According to Penang Umno Youth chief Shaik Hussein Mydin, some 2,000 motorcyclists from the mainland also participated in the event.
The event was a show meant to show support for BN and chief minister Lim Guan Eng was a frequent target for participants and speakers.
Event organisers said that the event was intended to "eradicate (cegah) slander (fitnah), lies (pembohongan) and cheating (menipu)" from affecting the public.
Apart from political speeches, the crowd was also treated to free food, silat and chingay performances.

During his speech, state Umno deputy chief Musa Sheikh Fadzir told the crowd that no one organisation can claim that they are the organisers of the event.
"There are no organisers here. This is by the rakyat for the rakyat," he said before Teng presented his speech, and was greeted with loud cheers from the mostly Malay crowd, which had grown to about 5,000 by 5pm.
After cries of "Hidup BN!" from the crowd, Teng asked them "Are you ready for GE13?" to which he received a reounding "Yes!".
"In 2008, we fell but today, we are going to rise up again. We are not here for positions but for the rakyat of Penang," he said.
Teng lamented the Lim-administration has failed to build even any of affordable homes, compared to Prime Minister Najib Razak, who promised to provide 20,000.
He accused the state of selling land - by first dividing the land into small plots - to private developers.
Teng also promised that if they win the election, they will abolish the toll charges for motorcycles on Penang bridge, which received a lukewarm response from the crowd.
"If we do no win, our plans will remain just plans. Our economic plan is something that can truly materialise," he added, which received emphatic cheers.

During his speech, Penang Umno liason chief Zainal Abidin Osman said Penang had enjoyed a "1Malaysia situation" since 200 years ago.
"At that time, the statistics for Penang residents were 10,000 for Malays, 8,000 for Chinese and about 5,000 for Indians. If our ancestors were still alive, they will shed tears to see us being cheated (by the current government).
"Who is the cruel leader? We must get rid of him," said Zainal, who was a former federal deputy minister.
The rally ended about 6pm, after Teng and Zainal presented a RM10,000 mock cheque to victims of the Lahad Datu incident, via Media Prima,
