Only 1 out of 5 graft reports investigated by MACC

Only 1 out of 5 graft reports investigated by MACC
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s investigating record is put under the microscope again today, with Pandan member of parliament Rafizi Ramli launching another attack on the embattled anti-graft body.
This followed a written reply in parliament by minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Paul Low, who said only one out of every 5 cases lodged with the Commission was investigated.
“This is far lower than the 77 percent-rate actions taken against every information received by ICAC (Hong Kong’s Independent Commission Against Corruption),” Rafizi said in a statement.
The PKR strategic director also pointed out that MACC's successful conviction rate was 18 percent, lower than ICAC's which recorded 86 percent.
Rafizi said the revelation only confirmed the doubts among people about the effectiveness and independence of MACC in carrying out its investigation.
