Police insist 'hina Islam' kidnapping related to Alvivi

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar today insisted that a kidnapping case in Klang was a religious retaliation for sex bloggers Alvin Tan’s and Vivian Lee’s Facebook posting that was deemed insulting to Islam.

However, he said that the retaliation is one of the causes and there were also monetary motivations involved.

“I said the reaction was one of the reasons but aside from that there was also monetary reasons.

“We know that the victim was asked to deposit RM3,000 but the drawing on his body was a reaction to Alvin and Vivian,” he told a press conference in Bukit Aman tonight.

Khalid said the kidnappers had taken advantage of the situation in light of the sex bloggers’ action.

“When people do something wrong, people like to take advantage. That is why I said no need give people opportunity to take such advantage,” he said.

Ng Mun Tatt was released by his kidnappers naked with the words ‘I insulted Islam’ scrawled on his body.

Ng’s family had said that the kidnapping had nothing to do with insulting religion and that it was purely to extort money.

The sex bloggers were yesterday charged with, among others, sedition and posting pornographic content and were denied bail pending trial.
