Star columnist says sorry over ‘Being Fat’

The English daily's feng shui expert who caused an uproar for criticising fat people her in weekly column apologises to readers for her 'insensitive' remarks.
PETALING JAYA: The Star’s long time-time columnist and feng shui expert Tee Lin Say has apologised for her callous comments about fat people.
“I realise that my views expressed in my column have been insensitive and have offended many. For this, I am truly sorry,” she said in a report.
In her Sunday column entitled ‘No Benefit In Being Fat’, on June 21, Tee wrote, among others that fat people “simply cannot function properly”, “lack discipline” and have a “lower social standing”.
Facebook users around the world slammed Tee for the offensive article, while others criticised editors of The Star for publishing such a callous article.
According to Tee, the intention of her piece was meant to emphasise the health and social hazards of being overweight in relation to “face shui”.
She conceded that she should have approached obesity in a less offensive manner.
“I appreciate comments and views that some people cannot control their weight due to sickness while others have natural tendencies to put on weight,” said Tee.
