Selangor creates history, passes opposition motion

The Selangor legislative assembly today created history by passing a motion tabled by the opposition bench.

The motion, tabled by Amiruddin Setro (BN-Jeram), was to urge the state government to investigate and halt any unapproved development projects.

Lauding the move, Selangor speaker Hannah Yeoh said that this was the kind of politics Selangor needs.

"My congratulations to the Jeram assemblyperson for tabling this motion which is important to the people of Selangor.

"This is the kind of politics I want in Selangor, not just motions on race and religion," she said.

Tabling the motion, Amiruddin (above) said that such unapproved projects pose a danger to the people.

"It is important unplanned developments which are out of control can cause flash floods, erosions and landslides which endanger the rakyat," said Amiruddin, who is also deputy Opposition Leader.

He tabled the motion according to Standing Order 26.

The session was adjourned at 4.55pm.
